You have 2 choices. You can go to shopping mall and buy average duffle bag from Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Under armor, Puma, Champion or duffle bag from other brand or you can take your old denim jeans and make a unique DIY duffle bag. Old jeans are perfect material for DIY duffle bag.
What you will need
- old denim jeans ( the bigger, is better )
- new bag inner lining fabric (choose the print you like)
- long metal zipper ( metal zipper is better than plastic)
- textile belt ( material must be strong )
- 2 metal closure snap hooks ( from old duffle bag or new)
- sharp scissors
- Tailor’s tape measure
- Tailor’s chalk
- Tailor’s pins
- Sewing machine

How to start
First, prepare all the things you will need. (see above)
Before you start to cut the old denim jeans, you have to ask yourself, what size of duffle bag is the best for you. If you have a big size denim jeans, you have a chance to sew a bigger duffle bag. If you do not have a big size denim jeans, ask your friends or buy the new lowcost jeans 🙂 because „the bigger, is better“.
Measurement
The rule here is measure twice, cut once. The size of your new duffle bag depends on the front and back size of your old denim jeans. You will need tailor’s chalk, a tape measure and pins.

How to cut
First of all, cut off the legs from the denim jeans. From one leg you create 2 circles, one for left and one for right side. The second leg is good for duffle bag bottom part and for handles on your new duffle bag.
Front side denim jeans with zipper or buttons will be the front duffle bag side, and backside where are the back pockets will be your duffle bag back side. All what remains from old denim jeans can be used for textile hooks holders, zipper part, or as a patch 🙂 if you have some holes in your old denim jeans.
When you have all the outer parts (from old jeans) ready, the next step is preparing the inner lining fabric.
Before you start measuring and cutting the inner lining fabric, it is better to wash it first in the washing machine first (30°C / 86°F) so that the fabric does not shrink later.
How to prepare material for sewing
Now it’s time to use the sewing pins.
When you have all parts „ready to go“, take pins and join the outer (jeans) and inner (lining fabric) pieces together. Then you can sew the outer part to inner part. Sewn inner joints must be hemmed – use the same fabric. You will end up with 6 parts – front, back, bottom, left and right and 2 handles. The last step is to sew all the parts together.
